The iconic BMW 5 Series Touring enters a new era with the sixth generation model, featuring a larger design, a fully-electric variant for the first time, and a variety of cutting-edge technology upgrades.
Electric Power Meets Touring Tradition
The most significant addition to the lineup is the all-electric BMW i5 Touring. This first-of-its-kind vehicle in the premium estate segment offers a choice between two battery and motor combinations. The i5 eDrive40 boasts 340 horsepower and a range of up to 348 miles, while the top-of-the-line i5 M60 xDrive delivers a staggering 601 horsepower and rockets from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds. Both models benefit from a usable battery capacity of 81.2 kWh, with fast-charging capabilities of up to 205 kW.
More Choice, More Space
The new 5 Series Touring retains its reputation for luxurious space and comfort, with increased dimensions offering more leg, shoulder, and elbow room for passengers. The luggage compartment boasts a generous 570 liters, expanding to a maximum of 1,700 liters with the seats folded.
For those seeking a traditional combustion engine, a plug-in hybrid variant will join the lineup later this summer. In the UK, customers can choose from four distinct trim levels: Sport Edition, M Sport, M Sport Pro, and the range-topping i5 M60. The Sport Edition offers an attractive entry point to the i5 range, while the M Sport variants progressively enhance the car’s sporty character with unique styling elements and performance features.
Technological Prowess
The new 5 Series Touring is a technological powerhouse. The BMW Curved Display takes center stage in the driver-oriented cockpit, featuring a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display. The latest iteration of BMW iDrive with Operating System 8.5 provides a user-friendly experience with a redesigned home screen, quick access functions, and cloud-based navigation. The system integrates seamlessly with touchscreen and natural language operation via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
For entertainment on the go, the infotainment system offers options like video streaming through Youtube and the Video app, and even in-car gaming with the AirConsole platform. To ensure optimal connectivity, the car comes equipped with two 5G mobile phone antennas as standard, with the option for four.
Driver Assistance at Its Finest
The new 5 Series Touring sets the standard for driver assistance systems. The Driving Assistant Professional package, available as an option, includes features like Steering and Lane Control Assist, Distance Control with Stop & Go function, and the unique Active Lane Change Assistant with eye activation. The Parking Assistant with Reversing Assist Camera comes as standard, while the Parking Assistant Professional allows for automated parking maneuvers from outside the vehicle using a smartphone.

The new BMW 5 Series Touring is already available to order in the UK, with customer deliveries for the all-electric i5 eDrive40 Sport Edition commencing from May 25th, 2024. Prices start from £59,455. The plug-in hybrid variant will be available later this year.
