BYD Makes High-Tech Electric Mobility More Affordable with New Dolphin Trims

Posted on September 2, 2024

BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) and power batteries, is expanding the award-winning BYD DOLPHIN lineup with the introduction of the Active and Boost trims. These new entry-level options make BYD’s advanced electric mobility technology accessible to a wider range of UK consumers, starting at a competitive £26,195 OTR for the Active and £27,165 OTR for the Boost.

Pure Electric Performance with Blade Battery Technology

The BYD DOLPHIN Active and Boost boast a new 44.9 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery, offering a WLTP-certified range of 211 miles for the Active and 193 miles for the Boost. This innovative battery technology is known for its exceptional safety, thermal stability, and high power density, ensuring both durability and optimal performance.

The Blade Battery seamlessly integrates with BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, a cutting-edge platform that underpins the DOLPHIN, ATTO 3, and SEAL models. This advanced platform enhances system efficiency and vehicle intelligence. The 8-in-1 electric powertrain, combining key components like the Vehicle Control Unit and Battery Management System, achieves an impressive 89% efficiency, delivering a more responsive driving experience.

Active and Boost: Tailored Trims for Different Needs

The BYD DOLPHIN Active prioritizes range efficiency, featuring a 70 kW (95 ps) electric motor and a high-efficiency heat pump. This combination allows for a longer driving range, even in colder temperatures. The BYD DOLPHIN Boost, on the other hand, offers a more spirited driving experience with its 130 kW (176 ps) electric motor. Both models benefit from BYD’s innovative CRBS regenerative braking system, which efficiently recovers energy during braking to further extend range.

Spacious Interior and Functional Design

Despite its compact C-segment size, the BYD DOLPHIN offers a surprisingly spacious and comfortable interior thanks to its short overhangs, long wheelbase (2,700 mm), and efficient packaging of the e-Platform 3.0. The car features ergonomically designed vegan leather sports seats, ample legroom for rear passengers, and a versatile 60:40 split rear seat. The boot space offers a generous 345 litres, expandable to a maximum of 1,310 litres.

Adding to the functionality is the BYD DOLPHIN’s impressive array of storage compartments, exceeding 20 in total. Additionally, the entire DOLPHIN range comes equipped with Vehicle to Load (VtoL) discharge technology, allowing the car to function as a mobile power station with a 3.3 kW output. This feature proves convenient for outdoor activities or powering various appliances.

Safety First: Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

The BYD DOLPHIN prioritizes safety with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance features typically found in premium electric vehicles. All models come standard with Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Prevention, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Additionally, a panoramic camera provides 360-degree visibility, while Blind Spot Detection, Electronic Stability Control, and Hill Descent Control offer further peace of mind behind the wheel.

A Commitment to Sustainable Transportation

“BYD is committed to making high-tech electric mobility accessible for everyone,” says Michael Shu, General Manager and Managing Director of BYD Europe and International Cooperation Division. “The BYD DOLPHIN doesn’t just boast advanced technology, it does so at an attractive price point.”

The all-new BYD DOLPHIN Active and Boost trims, alongside the existing Comfort and Design trims, are now available for purchase at authorized BYD dealerships across the UK. For more information or to find your nearest dealer, please visit www.byd.com/uk.

Henry Benz isn't your average automotive journalist. He's not obsessed with horsepower or zero-to-sixty times. His passion lies in the quiet hum of electric motors, the surge of instant torque, and the thrill of a world hurtling towards a sustainable future. Henry is the EV evangelist, your plug-in pal, and the guy who will make you fall in love with the world of electric vehicles, one test drive at a time.

Henry's journey began in the golden age of muscle cars. He spent his youth wrenching on classic V8s, his nose forever stained with grease and his ears ringing with the roar of internal combustion. But as the climate crisis loomed larger, a seed of doubt sprouted in his gearhead heart. Could there be a way to enjoy the thrill of the open road without sacrificing the planet?

That's when Henry discovered the world of EVs. He was captivated by the silent power, the instant acceleration, and the sleek, futuristic designs. He devoured every article, watched every documentary, and hopped behind the wheel of every electric car he could find. He was hooked.
