Electric Hot Hatch Arrives: Volkswagen Unveils ID.3 GTX

Posted on March 14, 2024

Gear up for a jolt of electric excitement. Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.3 GTX, a sporty new addition to its ID. family of electric vehicles (EVs). This high-performance hatchback offers drivers the thrill of instant torque and impressive range, all wrapped in a sleek and stylish package.

Two Electrifying Options

The Volkswagen ID.3 GTX comes in two variants, each packing a serious punch. The base model boasts a powerful new high-efficiency drive system delivering 210 kW (286 horsepower). But for those seeking an extra adrenaline rush, the ID.3 GTX Performance ups the ante with a heart-pounding 240 kW (326 horsepower) – the most potent electric drive motor ever offered by Volkswagen. Both versions effortlessly transfer their power to the rear axle, guaranteeing a thrilling driving experience.

Performance Meets Efficiency

Despite its impressive power, the ID.3 GTX doesn’t compromise on efficiency. Thanks to a new 79 kWh battery (net) and advanced engineering, the ID.3 GTX boasts a projected WLTP range of approximately 600 kilometers (373 miles) on a single charge. This impressive figure makes the ID.3 GTX a compelling choice for everyday driving and weekend getaways alike.

Striking Design and Personalized Interior

The ID.3 GTX stands out from its siblings with a unique and sporty exterior. A customized front bumper featuring a diamond-style black air intake and distinctive daytime running lights instantly grabs attention. Black accents continue along the body, with high-gloss finishes on the side sills, rear diffuser, and mirror caps. The ID.3 GTX rides on standard 20-inch Skagen alloy wheels, available in black or with contrasting black and bright diamond-cut surfaces.

Stepping inside the ID.3 GTX reveals a driver-focused environment brimming with sporty details. Premium sport seats come standard, featuring red stitching, perforated GTX lettering, and a choice between fabric and leatherette upholstery. The available ergoActive seats offer further customization with integrated headrests, electric adjustment, memory function, and adjustable thigh support.

Tech Revolution

The ID.3 GTX isn’t just about thrills behind the wheel; it boasts a cutting-edge infotainment system. A massive 12.9-inch touchscreen sits center stage, featuring a revamped menu structure and intuitive controls. The new voice assistant, “IDA,” understands natural language commands and can access online databases to answer questions or provide real-time information. But the real game-changer is the integration of ChatGPT. This AI assistant allows drivers and passengers to access a vast wealth of information and even have researched content read aloud while on the go.

Enhanced Comfort and Wellness

The ID.3 GTX prioritizes driver well-being with the introduction of a new Wellness app. This feature utilizes pre-configured programs to adjust various vehicle functions, such as background lighting, sound, and air conditioning, creating a calming or invigorating atmosphere depending on your needs.

Ready to Charge Forward

The ID.3 GTX supports DC fast charging at a rate of up to 175 kW (projected value). This means you can top up the battery from 10% to 80% in about 26 minutes (projected value) – perfect for quick stops on long journeys. The innovative charging and thermal management system further optimizes charging by pre-conditioning the battery before reaching a DC charging station, ensuring maximum charging efficiency.

Dynamic Handling

The ID.3 GTX is equipped with a specially tuned suspension system featuring strong stabilizers to handle its high performance capabilities. The progressive steering system provides exceptional precision, while the ID.3 GTX Performance receives an upgrade to the DCC adaptive chassis control system. This system offers a wider range of customization options, allowing drivers to tailor the handling to their preferences.

The ID.3 GTX represents a new chapter in electric mobility, offering exhilarating performance, impressive range, and cutting-edge technology. With its sporty design, driver-focused interior, and commitment to passenger well-being, the ID.3 GTX is poised to become a leader in the electric hot hatch segment.
