Honda Unveils the Future with ‘Honda 0 Series’ EVs at CES 2024

Posted on January 11, 2024

Honda, a pioneer in automotive innovation, has set the stage for a new era with the global premiere of its “Honda 0 Series” at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This groundbreaking EV series, slated for a global launch in 2026, marks Honda’s commitment to electrification and its pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2050.

World Premiere of the “Honda 0 Series” Concept Models

The spotlight at CES 2024 shone on the unveiling of two concept models representing the Honda 0 Series – the Saloon and the Space-Hub. These models showcase Honda’s novel approach to EV development: “Thin, Light, and Wise.”

The company aims to redefine the conventional norms associated with electric vehicles by focusing on five core values.

  1. Artistic Design that Evokes Resonance: The “Art of Resonance” design concept seeks to create sustainable mobility products that resonate with the environment, society, and users. The Saloon, the flagship model, embodies a low height and sporty styling, offering an interior space that defies expectations. The human-machine interface (HMI) ensures a sophisticated and seamless user experience, promising a driving encounter that resonates with the driver’s sensibility.
  2. AD/ADAS for Safety and Peace of Mind: Leveraging Level 3 automated driving introduced in 2021, the Honda 0 Series will feature an advanced driver-assistive system (ADAS) based on Honda SENSING Elite. The goal is to extend automated driving technologies globally, with plans for an AD system in the second half of the 2020s. Honda’s “human-centric” safety concept will drive the development, ensuring natural and high-precision risk predictions for enhanced safety and peace of mind.
  3. A “Space” Enabled by IoT and Connected Technologies: The integration of IoT and connected technologies in the Honda 0 Series aims to make driving enjoyable, user-friendly, and connected. The vehicle’s original OS, powered by AI and big data, will learn user preferences and provide real-time information. This promises a connected driving experience that builds a stronger bond between users and their vehicles.
  4. The Joy of Driving with Oneness with the Vehicle: Honda’s original electrification and dynamics technologies will deliver a joyous driving experience in the 0 Series. Combining low-height styling with aerodynamic advancements from motorsports, the series aims to harmonize dynamic performance and design, promising a new era of driving pleasure.
  5. Outstanding Electricity Efficiency Performance: Addressing concerns about charging time and battery degradation, Honda 0 Series models plan to shorten fast-charging from 15% to 80% to about 10-15 minutes. Advanced battery system control technology, based on extensive driving data, aims to limit battery capacity degradation to less than 10% after a decade of use.

Global Rollout and Honda’s Commitment to Transformation

Honda plans to launch the Honda 0 Series globally, commencing in 2026 with the North American market. The company envisions a sequential rollout across Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

The series name, “0,” signifies Honda’s return to its roots and a reimagining of the future of mobility. By focusing on the M/M concept (“man maximum, machine minimum”), Honda aims to maximize interior space and minimize the mechanical components’ impact, delivering efficiency and comfort in its EVs.

A Symbol of Honda’s Transformation

The Honda 0 Series embodies Honda’s journey back to its origins, emphasizing the pursuit of the M/M concept, the joy of driving, and the freedom of mobility. The global brand slogan, “The Power of Dreams – How we move you,” underscores Honda’s commitment to creating products and services that transcend constraints and elevate possibilities.

Honda’s determination to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 aligns with its aggressive electrification target – 100% global EV and FCEV sales by 2040. The Honda 0 Series emerges as a pivotal player in this pursuit, representing a transformation in Honda’s approach to mobility and sustainability.

Henry Benz isn't your average automotive journalist. He's not obsessed with horsepower or zero-to-sixty times. His passion lies in the quiet hum of electric motors, the surge of instant torque, and the thrill of a world hurtling towards a sustainable future. Henry is the EV evangelist, your plug-in pal, and the guy who will make you fall in love with the world of electric vehicles, one test drive at a time.

Henry's journey began in the golden age of muscle cars. He spent his youth wrenching on classic V8s, his nose forever stained with grease and his ears ringing with the roar of internal combustion. But as the climate crisis loomed larger, a seed of doubt sprouted in his gearhead heart. Could there be a way to enjoy the thrill of the open road without sacrificing the planet?

That's when Henry discovered the world of EVs. He was captivated by the silent power, the instant acceleration, and the sleek, futuristic designs. He devoured every article, watched every documentary, and hopped behind the wheel of every electric car he could find. He was hooked.
