Hyundai Motor Company revved up the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024 with the unveiling of the “NPX1” concept model, a taste of things to come for performance-hungry electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts. This aggressive concept, based on the award-winning IONIQ 5 N, showcases a prototype range of N Performance Parts set to hit the market soon.
The NPX1 isn’t just a pretty show car; it’s a glimpse into the future of personalized EV performance. Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all electric sports cars. Hyundai N is paving the way for customization, offering drivers the ability to tailor their IONIQ 5 N to their exact preferences.
The NPX1’s menacing exterior hints at the beast lurking beneath. A carbon fiber front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser hug the ground, reducing drag and enhancing downforce. A rakish rear wing spoiler adds a touch of aerodynamic drama, while lightweight hybrid carbon wheels shod in high-performance tires promise sharp handling and precise control. To bring the stopping power to match the go, the NPX1 boasts upgraded brake pads, ensuring confident deceleration even under the most spirited driving.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Inside the NPX1, Alcantara accents and racing bucket seats create a cockpit worthy of any track day. These premium touches elevate the driving experience, putting the driver in complete control of this electric thoroughbred.
The NPX1 isn’t just a concept; it’s a promise. Hyundai N plans to launch the IONIQ 5 N’s N Performance Parts in 2024, marking a significant step forward in the world of EV tuning. This move aligns with Hyundai’s vision of becoming a leader in “new tuning parts suitable for the high-performance EV era,” as stated by Joon Park, Vice President of N Brand Management Group.
And it’s not just about physical parts. Hyundai N is also exploring software customization options such as sound and vehicle calibration via over-the-air (OTA) updates. This opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for EV personalization, allowing drivers to tweak their cars’ performance and character to their liking.
“Not limited to tuning parts, we are also developing software customization such as sound and vehicle calibration by OTA updates which will open a completely new category of EV customization for an exciting future ahead for the tuning community,” Park said.
The Hyundai NPX1 isn’t just a concept car; it’s a declaration of intent. It’s a promise to electric car enthusiasts that they don’t have to settle for the mundane. With N Performance Parts and software customization on the horizon, the future of EVs is looking thrillingly unpredictable, and Hyundai is right at the forefront of this electrifying revolution.
