Hyundai INSTER Arrives in the UK: A Small Electric SUV with Big Range and a Small Price

Posted on October 7, 2024

Hyundai Motor UK has officially unveiled the all-new INSTER, its first-ever small electric SUV designed specifically for the European market. Combining practicality for city driving with the capability for longer journeys, the INSTER boasts a range of up to 229 miles (WLTP) and a comprehensive feature set.

Built for Efficiency and Range

The INSTER prioritizes range efficiency with a standard high-efficiency heat pump and battery heating system, ensuring optimal performance in various weather conditions. It comes equipped with a 42kWh battery as standard, with an optional Long-Range 49kWh battery for extended travel. Both models utilize a single electric motor delivering 97 PS (71.1 kW) for the standard version and 115 PS (84.5 kW) for the Long-Range model.

Striking Design and Customizable Interior

The INSTER’s exterior features a robust yet stylish SUV profile with clean lines and distinctive design cues. It shares the pixelated front bumper design seen on Hyundai’s IONIQ family, complemented by a bold skid plate for a rugged look. LED daytime running lights, pixel-graphic turn signals, and customizable two-tone exterior options allow owners to personalize their vehicle’s appearance.

Inside, the INSTER offers a modern and comfortable cabin with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, and a wireless charging dock. The interior design boasts customizable upper door trim panels, and the versatile seating configuration allows for walk-through access between the front row. All seats, including the driver’s, can be folded flat for maximum cargo space.

Fast Charging and Innovative V2L Technology

The INSTER excels in DC charging speed, minimizing charging downtime. Equipped with an 11kW on-board charger as standard, the INSTER allows drivers to spend more time on the road and less time plugged in. Additionally, the standard high-efficiency heat pump and battery heating system optimize both range and charging times.

Hyundai‘s innovative Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology sets the INSTER apart. This bi-directional charging functionality allows the car’s battery to power external devices like laptops, e-bikes, scooters, and camping equipment, eliminating the need for additional equipment.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

Safety is a priority with the INSTER, featuring a comprehensive package of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). These include Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear (PCA-R), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5 (FCA 1.5), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), and Highway Driving Assist 1.5 (HDA 1.5). Additionally, features like Driver Attention Warning (DAW), High Beam Assist (HBA), and Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) contribute to a safer driving experience.

Two Trim Levels and Customization Options

The INSTER comes in two trim levels – 01 and 02 – offering an array of features to suit different needs. The entry-level INSTER 01 starts from £23,495 and includes 15-inch alloy wheels, a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, and various driver assistance systems. The 01 is also available with the Long-Range battery, boosting power and range.

The INSTER 02, priced from £26,745, builds upon the 01’s features with 17-inch alloy wheels, front parking sensors, LED headlamps and taillights, privacy glass, and roof rails. Inside, the 02 boasts an LED steering wheel, ambient lighting, heated front seats, and a wireless charging pad. Customers can further personalize their INSTER 02 with a black contrast roof and door mirrors, a Tech Pack with V2L internal plug and a Digital Key system for smartphone unlocking and starting.

A Colourful Choice for Every Driver

The INSTER comes in a wide range of nine exterior colours, including solid finishes, metallic options, pearl paints, and matte choices. The interior comes in black cloth for the INSTER 01, while the 02 offers a choice of black cloth or a Newtro beige and Khaki brown combination.

Get a Closer Look at the INSTER Roadshow

Customers across the UK can experience the INSTER firsthand at the ongoing INSTER Roadshow visiting 86 Hyundai retailers. This roadshow allows potential buyers to see the car in person and learn more about its features.

With its competitive pricing starting at £23,495 and PCP offers from £249 a month, the INSTER poised to be a strong contender in the small electric SUV segment.
