Hyundai INSTER Takes Centre Stage: National Roadshow to Showcase Pioneering Electric SUV

Posted on August 30, 2024

British drivers eager to experience the future of urban mobility can get their first glimpse of the eagerly-anticipated Hyundai INSTER as it embarks on a nationwide roadshow this October.

Showcasing at 86 Hyundai retailers across the UK from October to December, the pre-production versions of this A-segment sub-compact SUV will offer a chance to get up close and personal with Hyundai’s newest electric offering. This tour will cover a vast swathe of the country, from the Scottish Highlands (Inverness) to the rolling hills of Somerset (Taunton), and the dramatic Welsh coast (Aberystwyth) to the historic city of Norwich. Find your nearest participating retailer and register your interest at http://hyundai-inster-roadshow.co.uk/pr.

Unveiled in Korea earlier this year at the Busan International Mobility Show, the INSTER quickly garnered positive attention with its robust exterior design, surprisingly spacious interior, and a suite of sophisticated technologies, all packaged within a conveniently sized, urban-friendly SUV format.

Building upon the design heritage of the Korean-market CASPER petrol model, the INSTER cleverly bridges the gap between traditional A-segment city cars and larger B-segment compact models. This translates to the best of both worlds: the manoeuvrability and ease of use associated with city cars, combined with the practicality and flexibility of a compact SUV.

The INSTER’s characterful design is sure to turn heads. Think bold wheel arches, distinctive LED lighting, and an elevated ride height, all wrapped up in a small SUV profile. Step inside and you’ll find a sleek cockpit boasting cutting-edge technology. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster delivers all the information you need at a glance, while a central console touchscreen of the same size allows for intuitive control of the infotainment system. Wireless charging for your smartphone adds another layer of convenience.

But the INSTER’s appeal goes beyond aesthetics and gadgets. It boasts exceptional versatility too. All the seats can be folded flat to maximise cargo space, while the 60/40 split sliding seats in the second row offer further adaptability for carrying passengers or cargo.

Performance promises to be impressive with a choice of two battery options: a 42kWh battery and a Long Range 49kWh variant. Both are paired with an electric motor offering either 71.1kW (97PS) or 84.5kW (115PS). This translates to a segment-leading driving range of up to 220 miles (WLTP) on a single charge with 15-inch wheels.

Safety is paramount, and the INSTER doesn’t disappoint. A comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) includes Surround View Monitor, Blind-spot View Monitor, and Intelligent Speed Assist, ensuring a comfortable and confident driving experience, whether navigating city streets or venturing out of town.

“The INSTER will be the most compact member of the Hyundai electric vehicle family,” said Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK. “It proves that good things really do come in small packages. This innovative and desirable vehicle offers exceptional capabilities and advanced features that challenge expectations of what a small EV can deliver. We’ve been overwhelmed by the interest the INSTER has generated in the UK since its reveal, and customers clearly recognise Hyundai’s pedigree in electrification, evidenced by the recent World Car of the Year awards for the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. This exciting roadshow will allow them to experience the INSTER for themselves and see what a truly innovative urban electric vehicle looks like.”

Note: Official technical data and range figures for the INSTER are pending final homologation.

Henry Benz isn't your average automotive journalist. He's not obsessed with horsepower or zero-to-sixty times. His passion lies in the quiet hum of electric motors, the surge of instant torque, and the thrill of a world hurtling towards a sustainable future. Henry is the EV evangelist, your plug-in pal, and the guy who will make you fall in love with the world of electric vehicles, one test drive at a time.

Henry's journey began in the golden age of muscle cars. He spent his youth wrenching on classic V8s, his nose forever stained with grease and his ears ringing with the roar of internal combustion. But as the climate crisis loomed larger, a seed of doubt sprouted in his gearhead heart. Could there be a way to enjoy the thrill of the open road without sacrificing the planet?

That's when Henry discovered the world of EVs. He was captivated by the silent power, the instant acceleration, and the sleek, futuristic designs. He devoured every article, watched every documentary, and hopped behind the wheel of every electric car he could find. He was hooked.
