Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.7 Tourer, an all-electric estate car marking the brand’s entry into this growing segment. Joining the ID.7 fastback saloon, the Tourer boasts a spacious interior, long range of up to 428 miles (WLTP), and premium comfort features, making it a compelling option for families and long-distance drivers.
Estate of the Art
The ID.7 Tourer blends the practicality of a classic estate car with the sleek design of a shooting brake. Compared to the fastback saloon, the Tourer features a longer roofline for increased cargo space.
With five passengers on board, it offers a generous 605 litres of luggage capacity, expanding to a cavernous 1,714 litres when the rear seats are folded down.
Long-Range Electrification
The ID.7 Tourer comes equipped with Volkswagen‘s latest electric drive system, offering two battery options. The larger battery promises an impressive WLTP range of up to 428 miles, perfect for tackling long journeys without range anxiety. DC fast-charging capability of up to 200kW allows for quick energy replenishment, reaching 80% charge in under 30 minutes.
Tech-Packed Interior
The ID.7 Tourer prioritizes driver and passenger comfort with a suite of innovative technologies. An augmented-reality (AR) head-up display, standard on all models, projects relevant information directly onto the driver’s field of vision, minimizing distractions.
Additionally, the panoramic sunroof with smart glass allows for adjustable transparency, while the Wellness In-Car app personalizes the cabin environment with pre-configured programs for relaxation, focus, or rejuvenation.
Premium Comfort
Volkswagen has gone the extra mile to elevate the ID.7 Tourer’s comfort level. ErgoActive seats with a new massage function and automatic air conditioning provide exceptional support and climate control. The optional panoramic sunroof with smart glass further enhances the airy and personalized feel of the cabin.
Market Positioning
The ID.7 Tourer joins the existing Passat Estate, offering customers a choice between a traditional gasoline or diesel model and a fully electric alternative.
This strategic move caters to diverse preferences and driving needs within the upper mid-sized class.
Availability and Outlook
Presales for the ID.7 Tourer are expected to begin in Europe during the first quarter of 2024, with production alongside the ID.7 fastback and ID.4 SUV at the Emden electric mobility plant in Germany. The arrival of this versatile and tech-laden electric estate car represents a significant step forward for Volkswagen’s electrification strategy, offering a compelling option for families and long-distance travelers seeking a sustainable and comfortable driving experience.
