Lotus Emeya Conquers the Cold: Electric Hyper-GT Completes Grueling Global Testing

Posted on February 12, 2024

The highly anticipated Lotus Emeya hyper-GT has emerged victorious from a three-year global test and development program, proving its mettle across 15 countries and two continents. From the scorching heat of deserts to the bone-chilling grip of the Arctic Circle, the all-electric grand tourer has been pushed to its limits, demonstrating its ability to deliver thrilling performance and effortless comfort in any environment.

The final stage of this rigorous program took place in Ivalo, Finland, where temperatures dipped as low as -40 degrees Celsius. Lotus engineers subjected the Emeya to a battery of tests, meticulously evaluating everything from chassis systems and steering to battery performance and tire grip on ice and snow. Bespoke winter tires were developed specifically for the Emeya, ensuring optimal handling and dynamics even in the harshest conditions.

But the testing wasn’t just about extreme weather. The Emeya also tackled the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, the high-speed loop near Nardò, Italy, and countless other diverse terrains, from the challenging B-roads of the UK to the remote landscapes of Inner Mongolia. The goal? To ensure that the Emeya delivers the exhilarating driving experience synonymous with the Lotus brand, while maintaining safety and predictability in all conditions.

“There are many elements of the Lotus DNA which have been carried through all our vehicles since the very first one in 1948,” says Gavan Kershaw, Director of Attributes and Product Integrity at Lotus. “A Lotus should be engaging and desirable, but also safe and predictable. That doesn’t mean boring – in fact, just the opposite!”

And engaging it certainly is. The Emeya boasts advanced control systems and all-wheel drive, ensuring exceptional stability, handling, and control even in the most challenging weather. Drivers can pre-heat or cool the cabin remotely using the Lotus app, ensuring optimal comfort before setting off, while features like heated side cameras and mirrors and a Snow Mode for the head-up display further enhance usability in extreme conditions.

With deliveries set to begin later this year, the Lotus Emeya represents a significant milestone in the brand’s transition to an all-electric, tech-focused luxury performance brand. This hyper-GT isn’t just about blistering acceleration and cutting-edge technology; it’s about delivering a truly exhilarating and capable driving experience, anywhere in the world. As Sylvain Verstraeten, Regional Vehicle Line Director, Emeya, puts it, “Emeya is the ultimate all-electric grand tourer, designed and engineered to deliver the optimum driving experience for our customers 365 days a year and in all conditions.”

For those seeking a luxurious and exhilarating electric driving experience that conquers any climate, the Lotus Emeya stands ready to answer the call. With its successful completion of this rigorous global testing program, the wait is almost over. Prepare to be electrified, no matter the temperature.
