Mercedes-Benz is giving its flagship electric sedan, the EQS, a significant update for the 2024 model year. The changes focus on three key areas: extending the already impressive range, enhancing the car’s luxurious feel, and catering to rear-seat passengers.
Increased Range Pushes EQS Past 800 Kilometers
One of the most anticipated upgrades is a larger battery pack, boosting the EQS’s range by up to 82 kilometers. This translates to a maximum range exceeding 800 kilometers (specific UK figures are yet to be confirmed) for the EQS 450+ variant. This puts the EQS at the forefront of electric vehicles with the longest range on the market, solidifying its position as a compelling option for long-distance travel.
EQ Design Meets Iconic Star: A New Look for the EQS

The EQS receives a design refresh that blends the signature Mercedes-Benz look with the unique design language of its EQ electric vehicle range. A new radiator cover with chrome applications replaces the previous black panel design, offering a more traditional and luxurious appearance. This grille is complemented by the return of the upright Mercedes star on the hood, creating a distinctive and status-conscious presence.
Enhanced Rear-Seat Comfort
The EQS gets a major upgrade in rear-seat comfort, particularly for those opting for the Extended Rear Luxury Lounge Pack. This package introduces a unique slanted footrest for the rear passenger not behind the driver, improving legroom and overall comfort. Additionally, the rear backrest can now be reclined up to 38 degrees, offering a more relaxed seating position. The pack also includes features like heated and ventilated rear seats, along with adjustable seat depth for a truly personalized experience.
Standard Features and Technological Advancements
Several features previously offered as options are now standard on the EQS. This includes the immersive MBUX Hyperscreen with its expansive display, a heat pump for improved climate control and efficiency, and a Disconnect Unit that optimizes energy usage by automatically switching the front-wheel drive motor on and off depending on driving conditions.
The EQS also benefits from Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to over-the-air (OTA) updates. This allows drivers to access new features like the Dolby Atmos sound system, the YouTube web app, and a digital travel guide without needing to visit a service center. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz is now offering standard maintenance service for up to six years or 90,000 kilometers (whichever comes first) for the EQS and its electric siblings built on the EVA 2 platform.

In terms of convenience, the EQS comes equipped with the KEYLESS-GO system, allowing drivers to start and lock the car using a compatible smartphone. Key sharing is also possible, enabling effortless access for family and friends. Finally, Mercedes-Benz provides EQS and EQS SUV owners with free electricity for a year at IONITY charging stations, one of the largest public charging networks globally.
Looking Forward: A Brighter Future for Electric Luxury
The extensive upgrades to the EQS showcase Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to innovation and refinement in the electric vehicle segment. With its exceptional range, luxurious appointments, and focus on rear-seat comfort, the updated EQS is poised to remain a leader in the electric luxury car market. Notably, many of these improvements will also be implemented on the other models built on the EVA 2 platform, further strengthening Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle lineup.
