NIO, a global smart electric vehicle company, held its annual NIO Day event in Xi’an, China, on December 24, 2023. The event, themed “A New Journey,” was a celebration of NIO‘s achievements and a look towards the future. Over 2,000 NIO users participated in the event, and more than 10,000 were present at the Xi’an Olympic Sports Center Stadium.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the ET9, NIO’s new smart electric executive flagship. The ET9 is a luxurious and spacious vehicle that is designed for the new generation of high-end business users.
Reshaping the Executive Flagship
The ET9 has a striking presence, with a length of 5,325mm, a width of 2,016mm, and a height of 1,620mm. It adopts a four-seat layout with innovative features like the “Sky Island” and “Executive Bridge” that create a first-class comfort experience. The rear seats offer a 360-degree versatile tray table and recline up to 45 degrees. The ET9 also boasts seven electric sunshades that can be activated with one click.
Technological Innovation
The ET9 is packed with cutting-edge technology, including over 100 NIO full-stack technologies, 17 world-first technologies, 52 leading technologies, and 525 patents filed. It is equipped with China’s first Full-Domain 900V Architecture, which supports a charging peak power of 600kW and a charging peak current of 765A. This means that the ET9 can be recharged in just 3 minutes using NIO’s battery swap stations or extend its range by 255km with a 5-minute charge.
Intelligent Driving and Safety
The ET9 also features NIO’s self-developed intelligent system, which includes the super computing platform Adam 2.0 and the company’s first 5nm automotive-grade chip for AD, the NX9031. The SkyOS vehicle operating system creates a technical cluster covering vehicle control, intelligent driving, cockpit, and mobile connectivity.
In terms of safety, the ET9 has a torsional stiffness of 52,600Nm/deg and is equipped with the most advanced sensing units and computing capabilities. It also follows aviation-grade safety standards and has safety redundancy in seven key systems.
Availability and Future Plans
The ET9 is available for pre-order in China, with delivery scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. NIO also announced plans to launch the fourth-generation NIO Power Swap Stations (PSS 4.0) and the 640kW Liquid Cooled Power Charger in 2024. PSS 4.0 is compatible with multiple brands and reduces the overall swapping time by 22%. The 640kW Power Charger has a maximum current of 765A, maximum voltage of 1000V, and a peak charging power of 640kW. NIO plans to build 1000 Power Swap Stations and 20,000 chargers in 2024.
