Renault Megane E-Tech Electric Gets More Tech, Lower Price

Posted on May 6, 2024

The Renault Megane E-Tech electric has become an even more tempting proposition for electric vehicle (EV) buyers, thanks to a significant upgrade in standard equipment and a surprise price reduction.

The award-winning crossover already boasted a comprehensive list of features, but Renault has raised the bar by adding a heat pump as standard across the entire model range. Previously, this energy-saving technology was only available on higher-trim levels.

Improved Efficiency and Range

The heat pump’s benefit lies in its ability to double the efficiency of recovering heat from the battery and electric motor. This ensures a comfortable cabin temperature while minimizing the impact on driving range. When outside temperatures dip below 10°C, the Megane E-Tech electric can see a range increase of up to 9%, a welcome boost for drivers in colder climates.

This technology works by capturing excess heat generated during rapid charging or motorway driving. A network of pipes channels this heat to warm the passenger compartment, making the most of the car’s energy reserves.

Enhanced Technology for Top-Spec Models

The upgrade doesn’t stop there. Techno and iconic trim levels now benefit from a larger, 12-inch touchscreen for the OpenR Link multimedia system. This enhances the in-car experience and provides a clearer view of navigation, entertainment, and vehicle settings.

Furthermore, the mid-range and top-of-the-line models gain contextual adaptive cruise control as standard. This advanced driver-assistance system builds upon the already impressive safety features offered by the Megane E-Tech electric, which can include up to 24 ADAS systems depending on the trim level.

Price Reduction Sweetens the Deal

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of this update is the £500 reduction in price across the entire Megane E-Tech electric range. This move demonstrates Renault‘s commitment to making this compelling EV even more accessible. The starting price now sits at a competitive £33,995 OTR (On-The-Road), making it a strong contender in the growing electric crossover segment.

Standard Features Abound

Beyond the exciting upgrades, the Megane E-Tech electric continues to offer a wealth of standard features. These include automatic wipers and headlights, automatic climate control, LED daytime running lights, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the Arkamys sound system (with a Harmon Kardon system retained in the iconic trim).

Impressive Performance and Range

The Megane E-Tech electric remains a powerhouse on the road. With a range of up to 280 miles (WLTP) on a single charge and the ability to recover 186 miles in just 30 minutes using the standard 130 kW DC charger, it offers exceptional practicality and long-distance capability. The advanced drivetrain combines a 60kWh battery with a 220hp electric motor producing 300Nm of torque, ensuring a responsive and enjoyable driving experience.

A Compelling EV Offering

With its enhanced technology, improved efficiency, and lower price tag, the Renault Megane E-Tech electric has solidified its position as a leader in the electric crossover market. It delivers a compelling combination of range, performance, comfort, and value, making it a strong contender for drivers looking to make the switch to an electric future.
