Renault Unveils the Electric and Iconic Renault 5 E-Tech

Posted on February 28, 2024

The legendary Renault 5 is back, reinvented for the modern era as the Renault 5 E-Tech electric. This exciting new model pays homage to the beloved original while embracing cutting-edge electric vehicle technology.

A Design Inspired by the Past, Built for the Future

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric’s design unmistakably draws inspiration from its predecessors, blending elements from the Renault 5, Supercinq, and the iconic Renault 5 Turbo. The modern interpretation features large 18-inch wheels, minimal overhangs, and a compact yet spacious design.

A Choice of Powertrains and Ranges

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric offers two battery options: a 40 kWh battery with a range of 300 km (186 miles) and a 52 kWh battery with a range of up to 400 km (248 miles) according to the WLTP standard. Two electric motors are available, delivering either 90 kW (120 hp) or 110 kW (150 hp). The 110 kW motor paired with the 52 kWh battery allows for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in under 8 seconds.

Fast Charging and Innovative Features

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric boasts impressive charging capabilities. With an 11 kW AC charger, the 52 kWh battery can be charged from 10% to 100% in 4 hours and 30 minutes. Additionally, the car supports up to 100 kW DC fast charging, allowing for an 80% charge in just 30 minutes.

One of the most innovative features is the car’s bidirectional charging capability. This allows the car to not only be charged but also to feed electricity back into the grid or power external devices through a V2L (vehicle-to-load) connection.

Advanced Technology and User-Friendly Interface

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric features the OpenR Link multimedia system with Google built-in, offering access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, and a wide range of apps. Additionally, the car introduces “Reno,” a virtual avatar that acts as a personal assistant and companion, answering questions and providing assistance with various car functions.

Safety Features and Driver Assistance Systems

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems, including automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and blind spot monitoring. These features ensure a safe and comfortable driving experience on the road.

A Sustainable and Fun Choice for City Driving

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric is a perfect choice for city driving. Its compact size, combined with its electric powertrain and advanced technology, makes it a practical and sustainable option for everyday commutes.

The Legacy Continues

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric marks a significant step forward for electric vehicles, offering a stylish, practical, and sustainable option for city dwellers. This car not only pays homage to a beloved classic but also paves the way for a more electric future.

Henry Benz isn't your average automotive journalist. He's not obsessed with horsepower or zero-to-sixty times. His passion lies in the quiet hum of electric motors, the surge of instant torque, and the thrill of a world hurtling towards a sustainable future. Henry is the EV evangelist, your plug-in pal, and the guy who will make you fall in love with the world of electric vehicles, one test drive at a time.

Henry's journey began in the golden age of muscle cars. He spent his youth wrenching on classic V8s, his nose forever stained with grease and his ears ringing with the roar of internal combustion.
