Suzuki Unveils First Battery Electric Vehicle: The e VITARA

Posted on November 4, 2024

Suzuki Motor Corporation has taken a significant step towards its electric future with the unveiling of its first mass-production battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e VITARA. Production of the e VITARA is set to commence at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India in spring 2025, with sales expected to begin in various countries, including Europe, India, and Japan, around summer 2025.

A Global Strategic Model

The e VITARA is based on the eVX concept model, which was showcased at the Auto Expo in India and the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW in 2023. This new BEV marks Suzuki’s first global strategic model, highlighting the company’s commitment to electrification.

Key Features of the e VITARA

  • Stylish Design: The e VITARA boasts a striking design that blends advanced technology with rugged SUV aesthetics. The “High-Tech & Adventure” theme is evident in the large-diameter tires, long wheelbase, and integrated display with advanced features.
  • Efficient Powertrain: The BEV powertrain comprises a highly efficient eAxle and lithium iron-phosphate batteries. This combination delivers nimble acceleration and sharp overtaking performance.
  • Electric 4WD System: The e VITARA features Suzuki’s ALLGRIP-e electric 4WD system, which utilizes two independent eAxles for powerful performance and precise control. The system also includes a Trail mode for off-road capability.
  • Dedicated Platform: The e VITARA is built on the newly developed HEARTECT-e platform, specifically designed for BEVs. This platform offers a lightweight structure, high-voltage protection, and a spacious interior.

A Milestone in Suzuki’s Electrification Journey

Suzuki President, Toshihiro Suzuki, expressed his excitement about the e VITARA, stating, “The e VITARA is our first BEV, developed through repeated trial and error to create an easy-to-use BEV for our customers. In order to realize a carbon-neutral society, we will provide a variety of options, including BEVs, hybrid vehicles, and CNG vehicles, tailored to specific regions.”

The launch of the e VITARA marks a significant milestone for Suzuki as it expands its BEV lineup and continues to develop mobility solutions tailored to the needs of diverse markets.

Henry Benz isn't your average automotive journalist. He's not obsessed with horsepower or zero-to-sixty times. His passion lies in the quiet hum of electric motors, the surge of instant torque, and the thrill of a world hurtling towards a sustainable future. Henry is the EV evangelist, your plug-in pal, and the guy who will make you fall in love with the world of electric vehicles, one test drive at a time.

Henry's journey began in the golden age of muscle cars. He spent his youth wrenching on classic V8s, his nose forever stained with grease and his ears ringing with the roar of internal combustion. But as the climate crisis loomed larger, a seed of doubt sprouted in his gearhead heart. Could there be a way to enjoy the thrill of the open road without sacrificing the planet?

That's when Henry discovered the world of EVs. He was captivated by the silent power, the instant acceleration, and the sleek, futuristic designs. He devoured every article, watched every documentary, and hopped behind the wheel of every electric car he could find. He was hooked.
