Vauxhall Frontera: Price Parity Between Electric and Combustion Means New Era of Electric Vehicle Affordability

Posted on August 29, 2024

Vauxhall has made history by offering the New Frontera Electric and Hybrid at identical list prices, breaking down the traditional cost barrier between electric and petrol vehicles. This groundbreaking move aims to make electric mobility more accessible to a wider audience.

A Landmark Moment for Electric Vehicle Adoption

The average list price difference between an electric and petrol car in the UK market is currently 31%. However, Vauxhall has eliminated this premium with the New Frontera, offering both electric and petrol hybrid versions for £23,495 OTR. This unprecedented price parity is a significant step towards making electric vehicles a mainstream choice.

James Taylor, Managing Director of Vauxhall, expressed the company’s commitment to democratising electric vehicles: “Vauxhall is leading the way in making electric vehicles accessible for everyone. With the launch of the New Frontera, we’ve eliminated the list price premium that often applies to electric vehicles, making electric mobility a more affordable option for all.”

A Rugged and Versatile SUV

The New Frontera boasts a robust and stylish design, blending Vauxhall’s Bold and Pure philosophy with a rugged aesthetic. Its spacious interior offers ample room for up to seven passengers and features a modern cockpit with two 10-inch widescreens.

Efficient Powertrains for Every Need

Vauxhall offers two powertrain options for the New Frontera:

  • Hybrid: A 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 48-volt electric motor delivers a combined power output of 100hp or 136hp. The hybrid system provides enhanced fuel efficiency and a more responsive driving experience.
  • Electric: The Frontera Electric is powered by a 113hp electric motor, offering a range of up to 186 miles (WLTP provisional) on a single charge. A long-range version with a range of 248 miles will be available from next year.

Plug & Go: Making Electric Vehicle Ownership Easier

Vauxhall’s Plug & Go offer includes a range of benefits to simplify the transition to electric driving. Customers can choose from the following options:

  • Free Octopus Energy Ohme Pro wallbox and installation: This provides a convenient and cost-effective way to charge at home.
  • One year’s free charging credit at Tesco stores: This offers flexibility for those who frequently shop at Tesco.
  • £675 roaming charging credit with Octopus Electroverse: This allows customers to access a vast network of public charging points across the UK and Europe.

Additional Benefits for Vauxhall Customers

In addition to the Plug & Go offer, Vauxhall customers can also enjoy the following benefits:

  • 50,000 Tesco Clubcard points: Purchase a new Vauxhall and earn valuable rewards.
  • Battery warranty for eight years/100,000 miles: Peace of mind for electric vehicle owners.
  • Three years of roadside assistance: Reliable support in case of emergencies.

The New Frontera represents a significant milestone in Vauxhall’s journey towards a more sustainable future. By offering price parity between electric and petrol models, Vauxhall is making electric vehicles a more accessible and attractive option for drivers across the UK.
