Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) has unveiled the ID. Buzz GTX, the most powerful Bulli (nickname for VW camper vans) ever produced. Debuting at their annual media conference, the ID. Buzz GTX boasts a significant power increase, all-wheel drive as standard, and increased towing capacity, making it a compelling option for adventure-ready electric families.
GTX: Power and Performance
The ID. Buzz GTX packs a punch with a new electric drivetrain delivering a whopping 250 kW (340 PS), a massive 100 kW (136 PS) more than the standard ID. Buzz. This translates to a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 6.5 seconds (estimated).
The GTX comes in two wheelbase options, both equipped with all-wheel drive (4MOTION) for optimal traction. The standard wheelbase model pairs with a 79 kWh battery, while the long wheelbase version gets a larger 86 kWh battery. Both batteries support DC fast-charging, allowing a 10-80% charge in about 26 minutes.
Towing Muscle for Active Lifestyles
The extra power and 4MOTION system make the ID. Buzz GTX a capable towing vehicle. The standard wheelbase model can pull up to 1,800 kg, while the long wheelbase version handles 1,600 kg, significant improvements over the standard ID. Buzz. This makes the GTX ideal for hauling trailers for boats, bikes, or even horses.
Sporty Design Cues Inside and Out
VWCV has subtly enhanced the ID. Buzz GTX’s exterior with features like a black headliner, unique GTX design on the seats, and red accents throughout the interior. The driver enjoys electrically adjustable comfort seats with memory function, upholstered in black ArtVelours Eco with a diamond pattern and contrasting red stitching. The multifunction steering wheel gets red cross-stitching and a red application with integrated chrome GTX lettering.
Seating Options for Every Need
The ID. Buzz GTX offers flexibility with various seating configurations. The standard wheelbase comes as a five-seater with a 40/60 split bench or a six-seater with two individual seats in each row. The long wheelbase version mirrors these options and adds a seven-seater configuration with a three-seat bench in the second row and two individual seats in the third. Depending on the model, the second-row seats offer fore-aft adjustability for optimal cargo space.
Spacious Cargo Capacity
The ID. Buzz GTX caters to active lifestyles with ample cargo space. The standard wheelbase model offers between 1,121 liters and 2,123 liters depending on the seat configuration. The long wheelbase version boasts an even more impressive 1,340 liters to 2,469 liters. Even with seven passengers, the long GTX offers a decent 306 liters of storage behind the third row. Both models can be equipped with a Multiflex board that creates a two-tiered loading area.
Tech Upgrade with New Features
The ID. Buzz GTX benefits from a significant tech upgrade. Highlights include an optional head-up display, a next-generation infotainment system with a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen, an illuminated touch bar for climate control, and a new voice assistant called IDA.
IDA integrates with ChatGPT, allowing for more natural language interaction and access to information through online databases. Additionally, a Wellness app helps optimize comfort with pre-configured settings, and a new exit warning system alerts drivers of approaching vehicles or bicycles when opening the door.
A Modern Samba Bus
The long wheelbase ID. Buzz GTX can now be equipped with an optional panoramic sunroof with smart glass. This electronically controlled glass can switch between transparent and opaque, offering a sense of openness reminiscent of the iconic VW Samba buses.
Looking Ahead
The ID. Buzz GTX marks an exciting evolution for electric vans, offering power, practicality, and a touch of sportiness. With pre-sales starting in summer 2024, the ID. Buzz GTX is poised to become a compelling choice for families seeking an electric adventure vehicle.
