Volvo Begins US Production Of EX90 Electric SUV

Volvo Cars has kicked off production of its highly anticipated EX90 electric SUV at its Charleston, South Carolina plant, marking a significant milestone for the brand. The first customer-bound EX90 rolled off the production line this week, a head-turning Denim Blue model destined for an American buyer later this year. “The fully electric Volvo EX90 ushers in a new era for Volvo Cars, one focused on safety, sustainability, and human-centric technology,” declared Jim Rowan, Volvo Cars’ Chief Executive. “The EX90, proudly manufactured in the USA, underscores our long-term commitment to our South Carolina workforce and the broader US market.”

Volvo’s Charleston plant, established in 2018, embodies the company’s dedication to the US market. This facility, situated near the historic city of Charleston, currently produces both the EX90 and the S60 sedan, boasting a production capacity of 150,000 vehicles annually.

Notably, the facility now features a state-of-the-art battery pack production line. These investments solidify Volvo’s commitment to South Carolina and the US, where the brand has maintained a presence for nearly 70 years through a network of 281 dealerships across 47 states.
