Electrified 007: Lunaz Delivers World’s First Open-Air Range Rover Safari Inspired by James Bond

Posted on February 13, 2024

Move over, Aston Martin. There’s a new luxury electric vehicle in town, and it channels the spirit of a certain British secret agent. Lunaz, renowned for its meticulous electric conversions of classic cars, has unveiled its latest creation: a 1983 Range Rover Safari, transformed into a zero-emissions open-air masterpiece inspired by the iconic vehicle driven by James Bond in the 1983 film “Octopussy”.

This isn’t your average electric Range Rover. The “Safari” moniker isn’t just for show; the car boasts a completely redesigned and reinforced chassis to handle the rigors of open-air adventures, all while maintaining the classic lines that made it famous. The original V8 engine has been replaced with a powerful 280kW electric powertrain, delivering 375 bhp and, more importantly, zero tailpipe emissions – a significant improvement over the original’s 360g/km CO2 output.

But the real magic lies in the details. The interior has undergone a complete metamorphosis, taking more than 1,000 hours of design and development. Gone is the spartan dashboard; in its place sits a sleek, 3D-printed console integrating modern infotainment, climate controls, and even USB-C ports. The seats are entirely new, crafted with sustainable and hardwearing materials, offering both comfort and a touch of James Bond-esque sophistication.

Owning this electrified Range Rover Safari isn’t just about driving a piece of automotive history; it’s about joining a community. Lunaz has seen a growing number of young, environmentally conscious entrepreneurs drawn to their unique brand, and this car represents a perfect blend of their professional and personal aspirations.

Beyond the Bond connection, this project signifies several key trends:

  • The rise of electric conversions: Lunaz isn’t alone in offering electric conversions for classic cars. As concerns about sustainability grow, this niche market is expected to see continued expansion.
  • Luxury meets sustainability: This Range Rover Safari proves that luxury and sustainability can go hand-in-hand. It’s not about sacrificing comfort or style; it’s about making conscious choices that don’t compromise on the driving experience.
  • Community building: Lunaz is creating a community around its brand, attracting individuals who share a passion for classic cars, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

This electrified Range Rover Safari is more than just a car; it’s a statement. It’s a testament to the power of innovation, the allure of classic design, and the growing demand for sustainable luxury. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll see James Bond himself cruising around in one, saving the world in style (and with zero emissions).

Henry Benz isn't your average automotive journalist. He's not obsessed with horsepower or zero-to-sixty times. His passion lies in the quiet hum of electric motors, the surge of instant torque, and the thrill of a world hurtling towards a sustainable future. Henry is the EV evangelist, your plug-in pal, and the guy who will make you fall in love with the world of electric vehicles, one test drive at a time.

Henry's journey began in the golden age of muscle cars. He spent his youth wrenching on classic V8s, his nose forever stained with grease and his ears ringing with the roar of internal combustion. But as the climate crisis loomed larger, a seed of doubt sprouted in his gearhead heart. Could there be a way to enjoy the thrill of the open road without sacrificing the planet?

That's when Henry discovered the world of EVs. He was captivated by the silent power, the instant acceleration, and the sleek, futuristic designs. He devoured every article, watched every documentary, and hopped behind the wheel of every electric car he could find. He was hooked.
