Volkswagen ID.7 Gets GTX Punch and Pro S Range Boost

Posted on June 5, 2024

Volkswagen has unveiled a performance-oriented GTX variant and a long-range Pro S upgrade for its electric ID.7 range, significantly boosting both power and driving distance for the popular EV.

The ID.7 GTX, available in both fastback and tourer styles, boasts a thrilling 0-62mph (0-100km/h) time of just 5.4 seconds thanks to its 250kW (340PS) electric all-wheel-drive system. This punchy acceleration is matched by impressive long-distance capability, with a WLTP-certified range of up to 370 miles (595km) for the fastback variant. The ID.7 GTX Tourer offers a slightly lower range of 367 miles (585km) but compensates with a cavernous boot space of 605 litres, perfect for extended road trips.

Both GTX models feature an 86kWh battery (gross capacity: 91kWh) that can be rapidly charged at up to 200kW using DC fast-chargers. This allows for a 10-80% charge in a mere 26 minutes, keeping you on the road for longer.

The ID.7 GTX is distinguished not only by its performance but also by its exclusive design cues. Standard equipment includes sporty 20-inch Skagen alloy wheels with diamond-cut finishes and IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights with illuminated Volkswagen logos. The GTX-specific daytime running lights and the red accents on the heated seats and multi-function steering wheel further enhance the dynamic look and feel of the car. Passengers are treated to a luxurious interior with 30-colour ambient lighting and a suite of advanced technologies, including wireless smartphone connectivity, an augmented reality head-up display with integrated AI assistant, and a comprehensive driver assistance package.

For those seeking extended range without the sporty flair of the GTX, Volkswagen has introduced the ID.7 Pro S. Available in both fastback and tourer body styles, the Pro S boasts a larger 86kWh battery compared to the standard 77kWh unit, resulting in a significant boost in range. The ID.7 Pro S fastback achieves a remarkable WLTP range of up to 440 miles (709km), placing it firmly in long-distance electric vehicle territory. The ID.7 Tourer Pro S offers a slightly lower range of 430 miles (690km) but retains its excellent practicality.

The ID.7 Pro S inherits much of its equipment list from the standard Pro versions, prioritizing comfort and advanced driver-assistance features for a relaxed driving experience.

With the introduction of the ID.7 GTX and ID.7 Pro S, Volkswagen has significantly broadened the appeal of its electric saloon and estate offering. The GTX caters to drivers seeking a thrilling electric driving experience, while the Pro S provides exceptional range for those prioritizing long journeys. Pre-orders for all four new variants – ID.7 GTX, ID.7 GTX Tourer, ID.7 Pro S, and ID.7 Tourer Pro S – will begin on June 6th.

Henry Benz isn't your average automotive journalist. He's not obsessed with horsepower or zero-to-sixty times. His passion lies in the quiet hum of electric motors, the surge of instant torque, and the thrill of a world hurtling towards a sustainable future. Henry is the EV evangelist, your plug-in pal, and the guy who will make you fall in love with the world of electric vehicles, one test drive at a time.

Henry's journey began in the golden age of muscle cars. He spent his youth wrenching on classic V8s, his nose forever stained with grease and his ears ringing with the roar of internal combustion. But as the climate crisis loomed larger, a seed of doubt sprouted in his gearhead heart. Could there be a way to enjoy the thrill of the open road without sacrificing the planet?

That's when Henry discovered the world of EVs. He was captivated by the silent power, the instant acceleration, and the sleek, futuristic designs. He devoured every article, watched every documentary, and hopped behind the wheel of every electric car he could find. He was hooked.
