NIO Zooms Past 1,000 km on a Single Charge, Marking a Big Step for EVs

Posted on December 19, 2023

In a groundbreaking feat for electric vehicles, Chinese EV giant NIO has unveiled its new Ultra Long Range battery with a remarkable demonstration. On December 17th, NIO founder and CEO William Li embarked on a 14-hour journey from Shanghai to Xiamen, covering an astounding 1,044 kilometers on a single charge with the 150kWh battery powering his NIO ET7.

This impressive test, completed with 3% battery life remaining despite cold weather conditions, marks a significant milestone for NIO and the EV industry as a whole. It showcases the immense potential of the company’s cutting-edge battery technology, potentially alleviating range anxiety and paving the way for longer, more convenient electric car journeys.

The NIO ET7 achieved five stars in the Euro NCAP rating system in 2022.

The 150kWh Ultra Long Range battery boasts several impressive features:

  • World-first pouch format cell CTP Pack: This innovative design eliminates the risk of thermal propagation, a major safety concern for traditional battery packs.
  • Highest capacity and energy density: With a cell energy density of up to 360Wh/kg, the battery offers the highest capacity and energy density for mass-produced passenger cars in China.
  • Compatibility and flexibility: The battery is compatible with all NIO EVs and works seamlessly with NIO Power’s innovative battery service system, allowing users to charge, upgrade, and even swap batteries according to their needs.

“The completion of this range test marks the range of smart EVs going beyond 1,000 kilometers, which will further promote the transformation of the automotive industry from the consumption of gasoline to electricity,” said William Li.

This achievement aligns with NIO’s commitment to building a comprehensive EV ecosystem. The company currently boasts a vast network of 2,322 Power Swap Stations worldwide, with plans for further expansion. Additionally, NIO has performed a staggering 34 million battery swap operations, demonstrating the popularity and convenience of its battery service system.

It pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in terms of range and efficiency, paving the way for a future where electric cars can truly go the distance without sacrificing performance or convenience. This successful test drive is a testament to NIO’s commitment to innovation and leadership in the rapidly evolving EV landscape.

With its advanced battery technology, comprehensive service network, and unwavering dedication to sustainability, NIO is poised to play a major role in shaping the future of electric mobility. The 1,000-kilometer journey is just the beginning, and the road ahead for NIO and the EV industry looks electrifying.
