Octopus Energy and Omoda Team Up to Supercharge Electric Driving in the UK

Posted on April 16, 2024

Electric vehicle (EV) drivers in the UK are set for a bonanza of benefits thanks to a new partnership between Octopus Energy Group and Omoda, the Chinese EV manufacturer making waves in the British market.

This first-of-its-kind offering provides Omoda drivers with a comprehensive EV ecosystem through Octopus, the UK’s go-to energy company for all things electric. From specialist tariffs and home charging installations to a charging roaming service and leasing options, Octopus is making the switch to electric easier and more affordable than ever.

Saving Money and the Planet with Octopus’ EV Expertise

At the heart of this partnership lies significant cost savings for Omoda drivers. By switching to Octopus’ “Intelligent Octopus Go” tariff, drivers can slash their charging costs by more than £500 a year compared to a standard tariff. This innovative tariff boasts the title of the UK’s cheapest and most popular EV tariff*, making it a win for both wallets and the environment.

The secret sauce behind “Intelligent Octopus Go” is Octopus’s “Kraken” technology. This smart system takes the guesswork out of charging by automatically scheduling charging sessions during off-peak hours when electricity is cheapest. This benefits not only drivers who save money, but also the national grid by balancing energy demand.

Seamless Charging at Home and on the Road

For Omoda drivers who haven’t yet made the leap to home charging, fret not! Octopus has installed over 20,000 electric car chargers in UK homes last year alone, and their expertise is readily available to new Omoda owners.

But the benefits extend far beyond the driveway. Omoda drivers will also gain access to Octopus Electroverse, a revolutionary “one card, one app” roaming service. This service grants access to a whopping 650,000 charging points across Europe, ensuring seamless charging wherever the road takes you. No more juggling multiple subscriptions or apps – Octopus Electroverse puts everything in one convenient place.

Octopus Electric Vehicles: The Leasing Partner of Choice

Further cementing their commitment to a smooth EV transition for Omoda drivers, Octopus Electric Vehicles has been named the manufacturer’s preferred leasing partner in the UK. Octopus has grown into the country’s largest EV-only leasing business, boasting a fleet of over 15,000 cars with a diverse selection of more than 85 models. Whether you’re looking for a specific range, budget, or features, Octopus Electric Vehicles is likely to have the perfect EV for you.

Omoda: A New Name with a Big Future

Omoda, backed by China’s car-making giant Chery, is a new player in the UK market, and they’re here to stay. They’ve already established a network of 60 retail and aftersales partners across the country, with ambitious plans to expand to 100 locations by year’s end. Their debut offering, the Omoda 5 SUV, is just the beginning, and their partnership with Octopus ensures a well-rounded ownership experience for their customers.

A Partnership for a Brighter Electric Future

Fiona Howarth, CEO of Octopus Electric Vehicles, sees this partnership as a major step forward for the UK EV market. “We’ve entered the most exciting time for electric cars,” Howarth says, “with new, tech-enabled green cars arriving every month. This partnership allows Omoda drivers to make the switch easily and affordably.”

Victor Zhang, Executive Vice President of OMODA UK, acknowledges the importance of building trust with British car buyers. “Partnering with Octopus, a leader in the industry, is key to offering our customers the best possible experience,” Zhang says. “With Octopus Electric Vehicles, we have the perfect platform to introduce new buyers to our exciting EV models.”

This collaboration between Octopus Energy and Omoda is a significant development for the UK EV landscape. By combining Octopus’s energy expertise with Omoda’s new electric vehicles, this partnership is poised to accelerate the adoption of electric cars in the UK, benefitting drivers, the environment, and the future of mobility.
