Polestar 3 Unveils Effortless Charging with Plug & Charge Technology

Posted on September 25, 2024

Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car brand, has taken a significant step towards simplifying public charging for its customers. The company has introduced Plug & Charge functionality for its new flagship SUV, the Polestar 3, streamlining the charging experience with a digital wallet approach.

This innovative technology eliminates the need for fumbling with apps or cards at charging stations. Acting as a secure digital wallet, the Polestar 3 itself communicates directly with compatible public chargers, automatically initiating the charging session and handling payment seamlessly.

“With Plug & Charge, we offer a premium service to Polestar 3 customers,” says Lutz Stiegler, CTO of Polestar. “This advanced technology removes the hassle from charging on the road, making it as easy and convenient as possible for our customers. We’re thrilled to introduce this feature on the Polestar 3 first, with plans to roll it out to other models in our range soon.”

Goodbye Frustration, Hello Convenience

Prior to Plug & Charge, EV drivers often faced a multi-step process to initiate charging. This could involve selecting the charging location within an app, confirming the specific charger they were connected to, and then authenticating the session through an app or card. Plug & Charge eliminates these steps, allowing Polestar 3 drivers to simply plug in and enjoy a hassle-free charging experience.

The system currently operates at over 9,500 High Power Charging points across Europe, including select Ionity and Mer locations. This network provides access to fast charging, making long journeys with the Polestar 3 even more convenient.

Integration with Polestar Charge App

To activate Plug & Charge, Polestar 3 drivers simply need to enable the function within the vehicle’s charging settings. The system then connects seamlessly with the Polestar Charge App, offering further benefits.

The Polestar Charge App provides access to a vast network of over 800,000 public charging points across Europe, alongside route planning functionality. Additionally, the app allows users to subscribe to fast-charging plans with discounted rates at participating locations. This ensures that Plug & Charge not only simplifies the charging process but also offers potential cost savings.

The Future of Electric Vehicle Charging

The introduction of Plug & Charge by Polestar represents a significant leap forward in user-friendliness for EV ownership. This technology paves the way for a future where electric car charging is as effortless as refueling a traditional gasoline vehicle.

With Plug & Charge initially available on the Polestar 3 and planned for rollout across the brand’s lineup in 2025, Polestar is making a strong statement about its commitment to a seamless electric driving experience.
